Living in Lake Shirakaba

Tateshina Kogen and Shinshu Shirakaba-ko (Lake Shirakaba)

Lake Shirakaba, a lake on a plateau at an altitude of 1416 m, is located almost in the centre of Shinshu.

Lake Shirakaba is an artificial lake created in 1946 for the purpose of securing water for agriculture in Kashiwabara Ward, 10 km down the road.

It has now developed into one of Japan’s leading highland resorts.

The local Kashiwabara Ward Tourism Committee provides information on the origins of this Shirakaba Lake and the Shirakaba Lake holiday home area.
