The firewood might seem scattered and untidy, well, because it is (laughs). Yet, it is an integral part of our lifestyle, a constant struggle year-round to maintain the wood and the wood stove essential for winter warmth. We are grateful for guests who resonate with and enjoy 'our' lifestyle by Lake Shirakaba, just as it is.
It truly means a lot.
We are not originally from here... when we first moved here, we were raising our children, but we came to Lake Shirakaba to manage a pension. Operating a pension in the nationally renowned Lake Shirakaba, while raising young children, was challenging and extremely busy. There was hardly any time to relax and enjoy Lake Shirakaba ourselves (laughs). Nevertheless, we received tremendous support from our senior colleagues managing their businesses and fellow parents. Lake Shirakaba is home to many wonderful people like that (laughs). Seeing young families now brings back nostalgic memories. Nowadays, with a bit more time on our hands, we enjoy winter sports, cycling, tending to our garden... simply relishing Lake Shirakaba while managing the inn. Time flies in a different way than before (laughs), but we are savoring each day, learning, and finding inspiration through our encounters with guests.
While we took over the pension from the previous owner, we have gradually personalized it by collecting decorations and lamps we love and occasionally engaging in some DIY renovations.
Outside, the firewood may seem scattered and untidy, well, because it is (laughs). However, it is an integral part of our lifestyle, a year-round struggle to maintain the wood and the wood stove essential for winter warmth. My wife often tells me, "It looks like a construction site, do something about it!" (laughs), but this is also my life's work (laughs). I believe every inn has its unique character, and I think it is crucial for pensions to maintain their individuality. We are grateful for guests who resonate with and enjoy 'our' lifestyle by Lake Shirakaba, just as it is.
Looking ahead, as more people choose to relocate here in the future, I hope we will have more companions to build the community together. It would be wonderful if each of us could pursue an ideal lifestyle that reflects our personalities, join together as residents, and contribute to creating and nurturing this place collectively.
My favorite season? All four seasons.
Mornings are particularly special; the early hours are undeniably beautiful. In the calm early mornings with no wind, you can see the reflection of the scenery across the lake. With usually sunny weather and clean air, the "Lake Shirakaba Blue," where the colorful clouds of sunset and the blue sky reflect on the lake surface, is breathtaking. Even during scorching summer days, once you step into the shade, you can comfortably enjoy the natural air conditioning of the highlands without feeling sticky.
In the evening, when I have time, I run or walk along the jogging path by the lake. Well, it is for my health, though (laughs).
Hearing our guests say, 'This is a wonderful place!' genuinely makes us happy.
I am still discovering new things. I hope you will find your "favorite place" and keep coming back.
