Being born and raised by Lake Shirakaba, I naturally hold a deep affection for this place. I aim to preserve the timeless image of "lake and meadows" that comes to mind when thinking of Lake Shirakaba. That feeling has never changed.

Sawato Kitazawa

Fourteen years ago, we transformed a Western-style lodge into a Japanese-style inn, and named it "Sawaemon" after my grandfather. We highly value human interactions and enjoy hearing various stories from our guests. That is why, during the renovation, we reduced the number of rooms from around 20 to 8, allowing us to cherish these personal connections. Many of our guests are repeat visitors.

My favorite time spans from the rainy season to early summer. Just before the bustling summer, in mid-June, the entire area is adorned with yellow azaleas, and come late July, vibrant orange daylilies grace the landscape. I hope more people would come during these seasons to witness this breathtaking scenery.

Originally from Lake Shirakaba, I returned after traveling overseas. That is why, for the winter season, we named the restaurant "Whisler" after a Canadian tourist destination with a lake. However, my deep affection for Lake Shirakaba, where I was born and raised, remains constant. I aim to preserve the timeless image of "lake and meadows" that comes to mind when thinking of Lake Shirakaba. That feeling has never changed. For instance, when the trees grow too much, we thin them out, maintaining the surroundings based on the perpetually beautiful scenery.

In terms of tourism, I aspire to collaborate on creating new attractions in the future. Working together with the community, I would like to develop places with exceptional views and inspirational qualities.

As for my recommended scenery, I would prefer to keep it a secret (laughs), so please come to the inn, and let's chat then!
