La Chambre

Located at an elevation of 1,450 meters, just a 5-minute stroll from Lake Shirakaba, La Chambre is a spacious and tranquil inn nestled within the forest where the wild birds sings. With an expansive property of approximately 3,300 square-meters, our haven offers a unique nature-full experience during every season - spring welcomes nightingales and butterbur sprouts, in the summer, it becomes a cool, refreshing summer retreat, in autumn, it is filled with vibrant colored leaves and starry night skies, and in the winter, indulge in skiing and baths with a view of the snow. There is a music hall in the new annex, equipped with professional-grade musical equippment, which is perfect for music enthusiasts.

Yoshihiro Terai

La Chambre translates to "a small room" in French, a name passed down to me by the previous owner 18 years ago.

Having relocated to this area from the Kansai region, the people around Lake Shirakaba have become not just neighbors but friends and companions, fostering a supportive community. I witness the beauty of this region, where the shifting seasons are palpable every day. Moreover, Lake Shirakaba stands out as an ideal destination for outdoor and nature enthusiasts. The accessibility to nearby mountains and lakes within Nagano, coupled with a less-than-three-hour drive to destinations like Kitadake, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Hakone, is one of the compelling reasons I adore this region. One of my recommended spots is Mount Kurumayama, offering a truly breathtaking view from the summit.
My preferred season is summer. Nestled in the forest, at La Chambre, you can always see the changes in the leaves and feel the presence of wildlife. The summer landscapes, in particular, hold a special place in my heart, and I sincerely hope more people have the opportunity to witness them.

Interestingly, both my wife and I share a love for music. When renovating the pension, we realized our dream of creating a music hall. We paid meticulous attention to soundproofing and interior design. Positioned behind the grand piano is a large window, allowing you to savor music against the backdrop of evolving landscapes throughout the seasons. The space serves as a concert hall for students on retreat and a gathering spot for music-loving friends.

Come and relish moments spent in the heart of the forest, in harmony with nature.

Forest-view open-air baths, the music hall, and full-course dinners are highly praised

Just a 5-minute walk from Lake Shirakaba, our tranquil inn in the forest echoes with the melodic calls of wild birds. Guests adore our private open-air baths, the music hall, and Western-style full-course dinners served with a complete knife and fork set.
