Cariomon
At Cariomon, we serve freshly roasted coffee, paying special attention to the coffee beans we use. "Freshly roasted," "freshly ground," and "freshly brewed" – because we believe that only freshly roasted coffee is truly delicious and beneficial for your health. Beyond offering coffee in our store, we are passionate about promoting "home roasting," the practice of roasting coffee at home, and we even provide roasting workshops for those interested. Our coffee is made with the delightful natural spring water from Lake Shirakaba, known as "Yaomi-no-Shizuku." We welcome not only coffee lovers but also those who may not typically enjoy coffee to come and give it a try. Please feel free to stop by when you are exploring the Venus Line, Tateshina, Lake Shirakaba, or Kurumayama.

We want people to savor delicious coffee in a place where both the water and air are fresh, crafted from the local spring water. Whether you are a coffee enthusiast or not, Cariomon is a place for everyone.
When it comes to our coffee, we pay special attention to the beans. Almost all of our beans are of specialty-grade, and we roast them upon receiving an order. We want our customers to enjoy the finest beans in their freshly roasted state.
The term "Cariomon" originates from the traditional Ethiopian coffee brewing custom, akin to a coffee ceremony, much like the Japanese "tea ceremony." In Amharic, the Ethiopian language, it is referred to as "Cariomon." This custom involves roasting raw green coffee beans and serving them to guests, making it a perfect fit for a coffee shop that roasts and serves beans from their raw state.
I relocated here about three and a half years ago and opened this coffee shop. At the time, I was searching for a place to start a coffee shop after leaving my previous job. I thought Tateshina or Lake Shirakaba would be ideal, and that is how I ended up here. It is serene, nestled deep in the mountains away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Every season is pleasant here, but the fresh green season around the end of May is particularly delightful. It feels great to go for a run. Since I run throughout the year, I take two to three laps around the lake before opening the store in the morning. I find my motivation to run is higher in the morning, as the brain tends to tire by evening. Back in Tokyo, I used to listen to music while running, but now I prefer the quiet run, experiencing the gradual changes in nature with the seasons and listening to the birdsong.
The view of the plaza with the fountain just beyond the store is the best around Lake Shirakaba. After running, I sometimes bring out my yoga mat and stretch there. It feels absolutely amazing with the clean air and negative ions. With no commuting time, I get to indulge in such activities before starting work.
Lately, I have heard that some people in this area were looking for a place to do their work, so I have set up power outlets and Wi-Fi. More and more people are now using the coffee shop for work between their work or during sightseeing.
Feel free to drop by.
